Challenge
OMV Group, one of Europe’s leading energy and chemicals companies, is undergoing a major transformation to become an integrated, sustainable business with a clear ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Procurement plays a critical role in this shift, tasked with reducing costs, supporting sustainability, and driving digitalization across the organization. Martin Traxl, Head of Strategy & Digitalization and Program Manager for SAP S/4 HANA Procurement and SAP Ariba, explains the mission clearly: “Our mission is to create value through procurement by leveraging state-of-the-art technology.” Yet, reaching this mission required moving beyond manual, time-intensive processes. Sourcing teams needed a way to make negotiations more data-driven, simplify complex bid analysis, and bring more spend under strategic management.
Solution
In 2023, OMV partnered with Archlet to integrate our sourcing optimization solution directly into their SAP Ariba ecosystem. This integration allows procurement teams to strengthen decision-making with advanced analytics and AI-powered scenario building, while reducing manual effort across sourcing events. To bring this collaboration closer to the teams, Archlet and OMV organized interactive workshops in Vienna and Bucharest with participants from both OMV Group and OMV Petrom. These sessions showed how Archlet can automate bid analysis and scenario creation, simplify complex bid comparisons, and prepare structured, insight-driven negotiations. They also demonstrated how the platform reduces manual work and frees capacity for more strategic activities. More importantly, the workshops went beyond tools, sparking conversations about new ways of working, encouraging feedback, and aligning on shared priorities for long-term value creation.
Results
By embedding Archlet into their sourcing processes, OMV has been able to run faster and more structured negotiations, supported by clearer insights and stronger decision-making. Manual work has been reduced, giving teams more time to focus on strategic procurement initiatives. The ability to model scenarios and analyze data more effectively provides sourcing managers with greater confidence and helps align procurement activities more closely with OMV’s sustainability and digitalization goals.
The strong engagement of the sourcing teams in Vienna and Bucharest underlined the momentum for change and the openness to innovation. OMV is now better equipped to manage complexity, improve efficiency, and deliver greater value to the business.
What’s Next
OMV and Archlet are continuing their collaboration to expand the use of AI across sourcing categories and further integrate decision-making capabilities into daily procurement practices. This partnership demonstrates what is possible when technology and people come together with a shared vision: smarter, more connected procurement that supports business transformation.
